MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The diplomat is scheduled to travel to Doha on August 2-3 for the foreign ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), where he will meet with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohammad Attiyah.

A statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry elaborated that Lavrov would focus on the task of “consolidating the efforts of the international community in finding mutually acceptable solutions to military and political crises.”

“These include an effective and coordinated fight against the universal threat of terrorism in the face of the Islamic State, al-Qaeda and other similar extremist groups,” the statement said.

Lavrov and Attiyah are also expected to discuss the further improvement of the legal framework of bilateral ties, including drafting the Russian-Qatari intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
