MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – At least 11 people died in northern Colombia when a military transport plane crashed after reporting a mechanical problem, the country’s authorities report.
"We regret the terrible CASA plane accident that killed 12 Colombia Air Force heroes," Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said on Twitter on Friday afternoon. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
Later, Colombia’s air force issued a statement saying that a CASA-235 plane reported engine failure prior to the Friday crash, which led to the death of 11 people, leaving no survivors.
The crash occurred in the Las Palomas area in Colombia's northern Cesar Department.
