The Great Pretender: Obama's Rhetoric Does Not Match His Actions

Brian Coughley lambasts US President Barack Obama’s efforts to justify US interventionism, dubbing it “five star hypocrisy”.

Barack Obama's rhetoric does not match his actions, former Australian defense attache to Islamabad, author and expert in political and military affairs Brian Cloughley underscores, referring to the US President's famous statement: "We believe in human dignity — that every person is created equal."

"In the field of international relations it might be expected that such a supporter of human dignity as Mr. Obama would refrain from expressing himself in a bellicose fashion and take a more dignified and less confrontational approach than he has adopted in the past six years," Cloughley pointed out.

Obama has repeatedly demonstrated utter hypocrisy while commenting on US foreign policy issues. The American President blamed Russia in March 2014 for using military force against Ukraine. Alas, the President seemingly forgot that he himself "enthusiastically approved the use of shattering military force" as a means of resolving political disputes, the expert emphasized.

Back in 2011 Barack Obama praised the US-NATO blitzkrieg against Libya, stating that "there will be times… when our [US'] safety is not directly threatened, but our interests and values are."

Remarkably, justifying the infamous military operation that dragged the region into endless strife, Barack Obama warned that if Gaddafi took over the "opposition forces" the massacre would prompt thousands of people to seek shelter in Europe.

"Which is exactly what has happened in 2015. The massive surge in the numbers of refugees crossing the Mediterranean from North Africa has created problems in Europe which, although of no concern to Washington, are critical and perhaps unsolvable. All thanks to a war that was begun because although as Obama said "our safety is not directly threatened," he considered that Washington's "interests and values" were at risk," Cloughley underscored.

The American President claimed many times that "bigger nations should not be able to bully smaller ones," but it does not prevent him and his administration from cracking down on Syria and Bashar al-Assad. He pushed ahead the creation of US training camps in the Middle East for the Syrian "opposition" as well as sending more American boots on the ground.

It was strikingly similar to Washington's previous military operations, namely in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan. Bullied by the "bigger nation," these states were reduced to anarchy and chaos.

Predictably, Obama's irresponsible policies in the Middle East and North Africa created a vacuum filled then by the hideous Islamic State, infamous for its gruesome propaganda, fanaticism and cruelty.

The United States Declaration of Independence, adopted by the Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 4, 1776, promoted high values of freedom, equality and human rights.

"But mankind is a defective species and the Earth is now a place which generations of humans have allowed and even encouraged to become a heaving swamp in which aggression, insult and confrontation have defeated the pursuit of happiness," the author remarked.
