Putin may attend UN General Assembly, Peskov said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Monday that preparations for Russian President Vladimir Putin's attendance at the 70th annual UN General Assembly were under way.

"I can confirm that such a possibility is being considered, preparations are underway," Peskov told reporters, adding that the official confirmation would follow the final decision.

Putin addressed UN General Assembly in 2000, 2003, and 2005.

The 70th session of the UN General Assembly is scheduled to open at UN Headquarters on September 15.

Brazil is expected to open a September 28-October 3 heads of state and foreign ministerial-level session, followed by the United States, China and Jordan, with Russia is listed as sixth.

The UN Department of Public Information published a provisional list of 90 head-of-state level General Assembly speakers, including Russia, earlier.

In late March, Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq welcomed the possibility of Putin addressing the General Assembly in New York.
