WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On July 14, 2015, the medical watchdog Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released a video documenting a senior Planned Parenthood official talking about providing body organs from aborted fetuses.
“For more than a century, Planned Parenthood has provided essential services for women,” Clinton said on Thursday at a community college in Greenville, South Carolina according to a NBC News report.
According to US law, the sale or purchase of human fetal tissue and organs is a felony and is punishable by up to ten years in prison.
However, Clinton claimed that Planned Parenthood had been the object of a concerted attack for many years.
“[I]t's really an attack against a woman's right to choose,” Clinton said, according to the NBC report. “I'm hoping this situation will not further undermine the very important services that Planned Parenthood provides across our country.”
Planned Parenthood has more than 700 health centers across the United States and facilitates approximately 81,000 abortions annually, according to its website.
In 2013, Planned Parenthood received 45 percent of its funding from the US government through grants totaling $540 million, according to the organization’s 2012-2013 annual report.
