Alitalia Airline Employees to Hold 24-Hour Strike Friday - Union

Pilots and flight attendants from Alitalia, the largest Italian airline, will stage a 24-hour nation-wide strike on Friday, the Italian Civil Aviation Association (ANPAC) said Thursday.

ROME (Sputnik) — The strike is motivated by the fact that Alitalia has refused to provide guarantees on staffing levels, which means about thousand pilots' and stewards' jobs are potentially at risk, a statement posted on ANPAC’s website said.

The aircrew of CityLiner, Alitalia’s subsidiary, will also join the protests, it added.

According to the pilot and cabin crew union, about 15 percent of the airline's scheduled flights will be canceled due to the planned strike.

The strike will affect all Alitalia flights out of Italian airports, except for the ones from Bologna and Venice, but will not disrupt those originating from abroad.
