WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Pope Francis is scheduled to visit the United States on September 22- 27, marking his first papal visit to the country.
“It is now at 59%, down from 76% in early 2014,” the poll read. “The pontiff's rating is similar to the 58% he received from Americans in April 2013, soon after he was elected pope.”
The poll cites that a quarter of US citizens claim they have not heard of Pope Francis or have no opinion about him, compared to 16% in 2014.
In Washington, DC, the pontiff will address a joint session of the US Congress and meet with US President Barack Obama at the White House.
During his New York visit, the Pope will give a speech at the UN General Assembly and will conduct a multi-religious service at the September 11 Memorial and Museum to honor those killed in the 2001 terrorist attacks against the United States.
