Traffic across the Channel Tunnel has been restored Tuesday after a blockade by striking ferry workers at the French port of Calais, but queues remain, the Eurotunnel authority said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier on Tuesday, Eurotunnel said that the Maritime Nord Union had blocked access to the tunnel’s French terminal, causing serious traffic disruptions. The ferry workers were reportedly protesting job cuts.

The Channel Tunnel is a 31.4-mile rail tunnel between Folkestone, Kent, in the United Kingdom and Coquelles, near Calais, in northern France.

Calais has seen several traffic disruptions earlier in July as undocumented migrants from refugee camps near the French port attempted to climb into cargo trucks and cross into the United Kingdom via the Channel Tunnel.
