Greece-EU Final Agreement to Be Signed in 6-8 Weeks

Greek Vice Foreign Minister Ioannis Amanatidis said that in the next six-eight weeks the final agreement between Athens and the European Union on Greek debt settlement will be signed.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Anna Liatsou — The final agreement between Athens and the European Union on Greek debt settlement will be signed within the next 6-8 weeks, Greek Vice Foreign Minister Ioannis Amanatidis told Sputnik Monday.

Eurozone leaders reached an agreement on a third bailout package for Greece on July 13. Negotiations on the details are currently underway. The Greek side signed the first required bill Thursday. The next bill is expected to be signed Wednesday. The final Greece-EU agreement will be signed after the sides agree upon the details.

The Greek cabinet saw a reshuffle after the initial vote and senior officials who voted against the austerity package were replaced with new ministers, including Amanatidis.

"I think that in the next six-eight weeks the final agreement with our partners will be signed," Amanatidis said before he took office.

Amanatidis added that early elections are currently not on the agenda of the Greek government.

"Five months ago we already had national elections, where Syriza won the big national majority, therefore possible elections is not among the direct pursuits of the government," Amanatidis said.

The left-wing Syriza party, led by Alexis Tsipras, came to power after winning January parliamentary elections, promising to free the country of unpopular austerity measures.

Last week, several Greek media reported that new elections in the country were likely to be held in September or October this year amid disagreements on a new bailout within the Syriza party.
