MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The United Kingdom should concentrate on confronting “so-called glamorous parts” of extremist Islamist ideology to counter the Islamic State (ISIL) group, according to a speech by Prime Minister David Cameron to be made on Monday.
“We must de-glamourise the extremist cause, especially ISIL. This isn’t a pioneering movement – it is vicious, brutal, fundamentally abhorrent,” the extracts from Cameron's speech, marking a new phase in the government's fight with terrorism and published by the Telegraph on Sunday, read.
Cameron will warn young Britons about “the sick and brutal reality” of joining the militants.
“Here’s my message to any young person here in Britain thinking of going out there: You won’t be some valued member of a movement. You are cannon fodder for them. They will use you,” the prime minister will say.
The ISIL, which has seized large areas in Iraq and Syria, has been reported to recruit thousands of westerners. The group’s propaganda efforts on social networking websites are focused on young people.
In May, the Scotland Yard said that as many as 700 Britons have traveled to Syria to join the Islamic State.
