Western Media Promotes One-Sided MH17 Crash Coverage - UK's NCP

Leader of the UK’s New Communist Party Andy Brooks claims that reporting on the MH17 plane crash in the Western media is one-sided.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Anna Liatsou — Reporting on the MH17 plane crash in the Western media is one-sided, constantly blaming Russia for the plane being shot down, leader of the UK’s New Communist Party Andy Brooks told Sputnik Friday.

On July 17, 2014, flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed in southeastern Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board.

Kiev authorities put the blame for the attack onto the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, which they claimed was supported by Russia. Independence supporters in eastern Ukraine, in turn, said Kiev forces had shot the plane down.

Last week, Malaysia initiated a draft resolution to create an independent tribunal to prosecute those responsible for the plane crash at the UN Security Council. The document was backed by Australia and Ukraine, among others. Russia argues that the proposal is premature and counterproductive, preferring to wait for the results of the Dutch Safety Board's official investigation.

"There are so many unanswered questions which have been raised by the Russian side and by the authorities in Novorossiya (historical term for a region north of the Black Sea in present-day Ukraine), which have not been tackled by this investigation. What we see in the Western media is very one-sided," Brooks said.

Brooks stressed that only Kiev's view of the tragedy is aired in the Western media.

"I believe that there are two conflicting theories, and the received theory that the Russian authorities shot it down is constantly being promoted by the leading papers and the ruling circles in Western Europe," he added.

The final report on the Dutch Safety Board's investigation into the crash is expected to be published in October.
