The US government’s efforts to build a code of conduct for facial recognition software creators has hit a major snag, with privacy advocates boycotting the process citing inadequate privacy controls for the massive databases that can identify millions of American citizens.

A team of nine advocacy groups, such as the American Civil Liberties Union and the Consumer Federation of America, walked out of the talks, bringing an end to more than a year of negotiations. In their statement, the groups said there simply wasn’t enough common ground to build a privacy framework with software makers and the United States government that would adequately protect citizens. On this edition of Looking Forward, the co-hosts Svetlana Ekimenko and Victor Erofeyev are joined by Peter O'Neill, the President and Founder of FindBiometrics to look at the most obvious pros and cons of the facial recognition technology.
