NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – Pakistani military alleges that the unmanned aerial vehicle trespassed into Pakistani air space near the line of contact in the disputed Kashmir region. It was shot down by Pakistani troops, a statement from the country’s Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
India’s Defense Ministry has categorically denied that it was an Indian drone.
The Pakistani foreign office also accused Indian troops of unprovoked gunfire at the line of contact, killing three civilians and injuring another five. The shooting took place a day after Indian border guards allegedly violated the ceasefire in the Phuklian-Akhnoor sector in Kashmir.
Relations between India and Pakistan have long been been strained over disputed ownership in the Kashmir region following the end of British rule almost seven decades ago.
Four wars and a number of military conflicts later, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire in 2003. Both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating the truce.
