Sergei Donskoi, the Russian Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, is a lucky man. He will have a chance to meet former model and actress Pamela Anderson to discuss the important issue of whale conservation, said Nikolai Gudkov, an official representative of the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Earlier, the Canadian-born celebrity, known for her stunning looks and passionate support for environmental issues, wrote an official letter to the Russian government, asking to meet either Vladimir Putin himself or Donskoi to discuss how her environmental organization, the Pamela Anderson Foundation, could work together with the Russian government on environmental issues.

"I would like to be able to work in cooperation with the voices of compassion in Russia and thus I am hopeful that you can grant me an audience with the President or the Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment," a statement from the Pamela Anderson Foundation said.

Putin might have been too busy to meet with Anderson, but Donskoi was quick to accept Pamela's invitation.

"Sergei Donskoi is ready to meet with the actress… to discuss the issue of whale conservation in the wild," the official representative of the Ministry said.

Pamela Anderson Asks Vladimir Putin Out to Dinner
In the past Anderson praised Russia's efforts of boycotting Canadian products made from dead seal pups. The former model thanked Russia for addressing the issue of seal pup killings, a problem she's very concerned about.

When it comes to environmental protection, Anderson just never quits. Earlier this month, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society brought forth a story about the Winter Bay, a cargo vessel stocked with 770 kg (1,700 lbs) of illegally captured whale meat, planning to sail from Iceland to Japan through the Northwest Passage. Part of the cargo's route would be through Russian territorial waters and Anderson hopes to use Russia's international influence to prevent the ship with the illegally captured whale meat from reaching Japan.

PAMELA ANDERSON ASKS PRESIDENT PUTIN TO STOP WHALE MEAT SMUGGLERS World Renown actress Pamela Anderson has sent a personal request to Russian President Vladimir Putin to ask that Russia take measures to prevent the passage of the St. Kitt’s registered cargo vessel WINTER BAY through the Northeast Passage to Japan. The WINTER BAY is carrying 1,700 tons of endangered Fin whale meat from Iceland. Because the cargo is illegal and a violation of the international trade in endangered species, (CITES) the Icelandic shipment could not be sent via the Panama or Suez Canal and the ships could not stop in any European, North American, South American or African ports. President Putin has the power to send the whale meat back to Iceland by refusing passage of this illegal cargo through Russian waters. The WINTER BAY was discovered and documented last week in Tromsø, Norway by the Sea Shepherd ship SAM SIMON where the smugglers have been waiting for the Northeast passage to be opened. Iceland has once again ignored international conservation law and is in violation of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) by killing Fin Whales and shipping the illegally exploited whale meat to Japan. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society supports the efforts of Pamela Anderson and the Pamela Anderson Foundation in opposing this illegal trade in endangered whales. “Pamela Anderson has established herself as an influential and powerful voice for animals and the environment.” Said Captain Paul Watson. “Her name is well known though-out the world, including Russia and Pamela understands very well that celebrities have the power to reach the ears of the powerful with important messages that would otherwise not be heard.” The WINTER BAY is still berthed in Tromsø, Norway waiting for permission from the Russians to transit through the Arctic Ocean to Japan. Russian President Vladimir Putin has the opportunity to demonstrate that Russia is prepared to uphold the laws against the trade in endangered species. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society joins Pamela Anderson in respectfully requesting that President Putin stop the whale meat smugglers
