Seven Die, Over 700 Hospitalized Due to Heat in Japan

Seven people have died of heat stroke and at least 726 have been admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours because of hot weather in Japan, local media reported Wednesday.

TOKYO (Sputnik) – On Monday, the country's meteorological agency issued a warning for excessively hot weather.

In the past four days, in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto temperature fluctuated at around 91.4-93.2 degrees Fahrenheit. In some of the prefectures, temperature rose above 98.6 degrees. In Fukushima, Kobe and Saga temperature stayed at around 95-96.8 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to the NHK channel, most of those hospitalized are elderly people over the age of 70. Eight of them were reported to be unconscious.

Meteorologists have urged people to use air conditioning, avoid the streets and drink enough water.
