Greece will need €10-15 billion to recapitalize its banks, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras claims.

ATHENS (Sputnik) — Greece will need €10-15 billion to recapitalize its banks, rather than the €25 billion ($27.5 billion) outlined in the country's deal with its creditors, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said Tuesday.

"Twenty-five billion are not needed. It's enough with 10-15 billion," Tsipras said in an interview with ERT

On Sunday, before the Eurozone leaders have reached an agreement on new bailout program for Greece, the Eurogroup said that the new aid package would include the establishment of a buffer of between €10 and 25 billion to address potential bank recapitalization and resolution costs.

According to the Eurozone finance ministers, 19 billion of this amount would be made available immediately after the agreement between Greece and its lenders enters in force.

On Monday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel also stated that Greek banks need around €25 billion for recapitalization.

Greece is struggling to repay its debts, including $270 billion which it owes to its main creditors — the European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund and some Eurozone countries.
