WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A poll conducted by ICM Research exclusively for Sputnik and published Tuesday revealed that a third of US citizens think that police racism is the main reason behind the high number of blacks killed by law enforcement in the United States.
"When the ruling class has no future to offer black, Latino and all poor people, the only way to keep the oppressed in the place is to terrorize them into submission," Adam Lerman said. "There are no jobs, no access to quality education, no support system for the next generation."
The activist claimed that US governing bodies offer "repression when equality, justice and hope are in short supply."
Lerman said the long history of racial bias and overly aggressive use of force by US police is not an anomaly or just the fault of "a few bad apples."
"This is the result of determined policy, albeit not made blatantly public, by the leaders of both the Democrats and Republicans to maintain the status quo," he said.
US governing bodies and the politicians who work within their legal mandate remain determined not to "give the oppressed a single moment in which they can reflect on how to fight to change the conditions of our lives," Lerman said.
Ongoing police brutality and racial profiling continue to be major social issues in the United States. Over the course of the past year, numerous killings of African-Americans by US police sparked nationwide protests and received wide media coverage in the country and abroad.
