MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — Mexican authorities are ready to pay 60 million Mexican pesos (almost $4 million) for information on the whereabouts of escaped Mexican drug lord El Chapo, Attorney General of Mexico Arely Gomez said at a press conference.

On Sunday, Joaquin Guzman, also known as El Chapo, or "Shorty," escaped from a maximum security prison in Mexico through a 1.5-kilometer (0.6-mile) tunnel leading to shower cells.

"The Prosecutor General's Office offers 60 million pesos to a person or people, who will provide us with information leading to the detection and detention of Joaquin Guzman Loera," Gomez said Monday.
