What do David Letterman, the US military invasion of Mexico, and an anthropomorphic butt plug have in common? They’re all the latest in the ever-growing debacle that is the Donald Trump presidential campaign.

When late-night funnyman David Letterman retired last May, Late Show viewers everywhere bemoaned the loss of the genre’s cynical king. A format which has been often criticized as vapid and prone to celebrity fawning, Letterman was the one host willing to recognize Hollywood absurdities, and was fully aware of his own place within the institution. He was the late night prankster, the sultan of mischief, the yin to Jay Leno’s yang.

But if there’s one thing that can bring him back from retirement, it’s Donald Trump. Returning to the stage at the behest of comedic contemporaries Steve Martin and Martin Short, Letterman delivered one last hoorah.

"I was complacent, I was satisfied, I was content, and then a couple of days ago, Donald Trump said he was running for president," Letterman said of his retirement during a live show in San Antonio, Texas. "I have made the biggest mistake of my life, ladies and gentleman."

From there, the 68-year-old launched into a trademark Top Ten list of "Interesting 'Facts' About Donald Trump."

Trump, who is now leading the polls for American’s preferred Republican candidate, has earned a lot of criticism for his controversial remarks about Mexican immigrants. While most politicians would backpedal away from comments that instantly alienate a large portion of voters, that’s not the Donald’s style. He’s repeatedly reiterated his statements, and on Friday night, he upped the bar quite a bit.

"Instead, we should have invaded Mexico," Trump said during a speech in Hollywood. This, in Donald’s world, was his way of stressing his opposition to the Iraq War.

According to an anonymous attendee, that statement received "rousing applause."

While Trump’s firebrand approach may be off-putting to some, he has, at least, attracted the attention of Fernando Sosa. Emigrating from Mexico with his family at age 11, Sosa has made a name for himself creating 3D printed figures to poke fun at political figures.

In the case of Trump, Sosa designed a 3D printed butt plug.

"When I saw Trump demonized all immigrants from South America especially from Mexico, it made my blood boil," Sosa told 3Dprint.com.

Getting the look just right took a bit of fine-tuning.

"Donald Trump’s actual face underneath the TV make-up is pretty disgusting. It’s a combination of sunburn, and melanoma-like skin, so using the right shade of sunburned wrinkles made this piece extremely realistic," Sosa said.

"I was not sent here by the Mexican government," Sosa added, referring to Trump’s remarks. "I came here with my family thanks to my stepfather. We came here looking for the American Dream and my parents worked their butts off so my brothers and I could go to college or serve the armed forces."

As his number one Trump "fact," David Letterman said: "Thanks to Donald Trump, the Republican mascot is also an ass." Coincidentally, that could be great for Sosa’s business.
