No Italian nationals were among the victims of an explosion near the Italian consulate in Cairo, according to Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni.

ROME (Sputnik) — No Italian nationals were among the victims of an explosion that took place on Saturday near the Italian consulate in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo, Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said.

Italian Consulate in Cairo Hit by Bomb Blast
In the morning, a car blew up in front of the consulate, killing one person and injuring at least seven, according to Egypt’s Health Ministry.

"A bomb near our consulate in Cairo. There are no victims among Italians. We are with the injured and the staff. Italy will not be intimidated," Gentiloni wrote in his Twitter.

The explosion severely damaged the front part of the building.

No one has claimed responsibility for the blast.
