UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) – De Mistura ended a visit to the UN headquarters in New York on Friday, having "discussed the findings from the initial phase of the Geneva Consultations on the operationalization of the Geneva Communique with the [UN] Secretary-General and his senior advisers," according to a UN statement published on Friday.
The United Nations said the envoy will be continuing his consultation on Syria before he finalizes his proposals to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon by the end of July.
On Tuesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said that de Mistura may visit Moscow in mid-July to provide his assessment of the situation in Syria.
Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011. The country's government is fighting a number of opposition forces, as well as radical Islamist militant organizations, including the Islamic State.
According to UN estimates, the conflict in Syria has claimed some 220,000 lives.
Since the beginning of 2015, Moscow hosted two rounds of negotiations between the Syrian government and the country's moderate opposition.
In early July, Gatilov said Moscow was ready to host a third round of intra-Syrian talks.
The date of the new round of consultations has not been determined yet.
