BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – The possible exit of Greece from the Eurozone should be avoided, European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker said Tuesday.

“Grexit should be avoided, I am against Grexit,” Juncker said during a press conference in Brussels.

A solution to the Greek crisis cannot be found over a night and it is imperative that the parties to the bailout talks return to the negotiating table, the European Commission head added, speaking hours before an emergency Eurogroup meeting on the situation with Greece.

On Sunday, more than 61 percent of Greek voters rejected austerity measures proposed by Athens' major international creditors — the European Central Bank, the International Mometary Fund and some Eurozone nations — in a referendum. The measures included pension cuts and increased taxes.

The vote has renewed fears of Greece possibly defaulting on its outstanding multi-billion dollar debt and subsequently exiting the Eurozone.
