A heavy rain caused a massive flood in Russia's southern city of Sochi. A two-or even three-month amount of precipitation occurred during a single day, which prompted the authorities to impose a state of emergency.

The city's infrastructure sustained major damage. Hundreds of houses as well as the Formula 1 and Olympic attractions were affected.

The flooding hampered railroad and airport functions.
