US mission in Europe: Tanks for the Baltics, Bugs for France

US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter's week-long tour to Europe aimed to reinforce the alliance's commitment to NATO members states, but it took place amid a new ballooning scandal over the US spying on French leaders.

The Pentagon chief announced that enough heavy weapons and equipment for up to 750 troops each would be stored in the Baltic States, Poland, Romania, and Bulgaria. He also spoke of boosting cyber security, which was incredibly ironic since Wikileaks just revealed that the NSA had been spying on three successive French Presidents, including Francois Hollande.

As it turned out, while the US says it wants to defend European security from alleged ‘Russian aggression’, it is violating the cyber security of its most trusted allies – Germany and France, thus raising uncomfortable questions about Carter’s real motives.

Soren Liborious, spokesperson of the EU delegation in Russia(studio guest), Roslyn Fyller, INSYTE Research Group and Alexandru Mita, President of Romania-Russia Cooperation Association commented on the issue.
