Russia to Consider Stance of Greece and Hungary When Answering EU Sanctions
MOSCOW (Sputnik), Anastasia Levchenko Moscow and Athens should concentrate on long-term strategic partnership, ignoring temporary unfavorable circumstances, the member of the European Parliament from Greece told Sputnik.

"We should not make speculations according to short-term scenarios, but rather focus upon the long-term perspective," Kostas Chrysogonos said.

He added that Russia and Greece have a close historical relationship of several centuries and common interests in several fields, which provide a solid basis for the continuation of the friendship among their peoples.

Moscow and Athens stepped up bilateral cooperation after the left-wing Syriza party led by Alexis Tsipras came to power in Greece in January, 2015.

During his April meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Tsipras said that Russia and Greece must kick-start bilateral relations to ensure stability and safety in the region.

Western media and some officials condemned Tsipras' visit to Moscow in light of tense relations between Russia and the European Union over the Ukrainian crisis.
