Mass murderer Anders Breivik has applied to major in Political Science at the University of Oslo, reports Norwegian media, and on July 20 will receive a verdict from the department on his application.

According to the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, Breivik has been improving his qualifications since he first applied for the course in 2013, when he was denied a place because he had not received a high school diploma.

The head of the university's Department of Political Science, Dag Harald Claes, told Dagbladet that there are 2.3 applicants for every place in the course, giving Breivik a good chance of getting a place. Breivik would not be able to complete the full degree, since passing five of the nine modules of the course requires participation in face to face seminars and meetings.

Breivik to Sue Norwegian Government Over Tortures
Breivik is serving a 21 year sentence, the maximum under Norwegian law, in solitary confinement in Skien prison. He was found guilty of mass murder in August 2012 after killing 77 and wounding 242 people in attacks carried out on July 22, 2011.

Breivik killed eight people when he set off a car bomb outside a government building in Oslo, and shot 69 people dead on the island of Utoya. The victims of the shooting were taking part in a Worker's Youth League summer camp, a political youth organization which is affiliated with the Norwegian Labor Party.

During his trial, where he repeatedly made far-right salutes, he said that he had political motives for the murders, wanted to kill the whole Norwegian government with his bomb, and to stop multiculturalism and Muslim immigration in Europe.
