"Research suggests that there is no reason to fear the mutation of the virus… but at the same time, all the necessary measures in the Russian Federation are being taken today, as well as in several other countries," Anna Popova stated at an international conference.
Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a viral respiratory disease caused by a coronavirus, first identified in Saudi Arabia in 2012.
The recent virus outbreak started in South Korea in May. According to the South Korea's Ministry of Health and Welfare, a total of 27 people died from the deadly disease as of June 22, while the overall number of cases reached 173.
Although South Korea's health ministry said last week that the outbreak appeared to have subsided, about 3,800 people in the country are still under quarantine amid the deadly virus outbreak.
