During his trip, the secretary will hold bilateral and multilateral meetings with European defense ministers.

On June 22, Carter will speak at a forum in Berlin and hold talks with his German counterpart. He will also visit the NATO high readiness corps in Munster, Germany.

Carter will travel to Estonia on June 23 and hold a meeting with defense ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. He will also visit US sailors and marines aboard the USS San Antonio, which participated in the 43rd BALTOPS naval exercises in the Baltic Sea.

On June 24-25, Carter will attend the NATO ministerial meeting at the NATO headquarters in Brussels. On June 26, the secretary will return to Germany to attend an exercise hosted by the US Army.

"In this important month for the alliance, senior defense officials said Carter will hear directly from ministers, defense leaders and service members about progress made since the Wales Summit to address the new security environment, including challenges from Russia and NATO’s southern front, and discuss future actions to enhance alliance effectiveness," the Pentagon said.
