WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A former civilian contracting official with the US Army has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for soliciting a $500,000 bribe from a Virginia-based company to secure a defense contract, US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia said in a press release.
“James Glenn Warner… was sentenced today to 42 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for soliciting a $500,000 bribe from executives working for a private company on a contract that Warner managed out of the Pentagon,” the US Attorney’s office said on Friday.
Warner will also have to pay $50,000 in forfeiture, according to the US Attorney’s office.
The company had a five-year contract with the Department of the Army worth up to $120 million, according to the press release.
Warner told the executives $500,000 would secure the contract renewal from the Department of the Army, but the offer was declined by the company’s executives who later reported the incident.
In January 2015, law enforcement officials arrested Warner, who was in possession of $100,000 in bribe payments made by the Virginia company’s executive at the direction of US criminal investigators.
