"Maybe we will fly there [to Cuba] with our new Eurowings at a certain point of time in order to bring tourists there because it is a very attractive destination for leisure travel and for people from Germany to spend there their holidays," Bartels said on the sidelines of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) summit in Miami, Florida.
On Sunday, Lufthansa Chairman and CEO Carsten Spohr told journalists that Eurowings is expected to become third largest port-to-port carrier in Europe and Asia.
Spohr noted that in the fourth quarter of 2015, Eurowings will complete its transition process, incorporating the Germanwings brand.
Bartels added that Lufthansa always seeks attractive destinations “[I]t is an ongoing process, and Cuba is clearly one of those destinations which is on the short list,"
However, Bartels also said at present no specific dates to establish flights to Cuba can be announced.
The Lufthansa Group is Europe’s leading air carrier and includes such renowned brands as Austrian Airlines and SWISS.
