Fifteen Injured in Voting Station Scuffle in Southern Turkey

Fifteen people were injured at a ballot station scuffle in southern Turkish city of Sanliurfa during the country's general election on Sunday, a Turkish news agency reported.

ANKARA (Sputnik) Supporters of the opposing political parties started a dispute that turned into a fight with the attackers using stones, sticks, and knifes, according to the DHA news agency.

Policemen on duty at the station could not disperse the crowd and had to call for reinforcement units to end the fighting, according to the agency. All the 15 injured were hospitalized.

The general election kicked off in Turkey earlier on Sunday. The voters are choosing 550 members of the unicameral Turkish legislature.
