A pilot in the remote Siberian town of Turukhansk blew off some steam by stealing a helicopter and using it to terrorize a nearby village after arguing with his wife and drinking.

A pilot in Russia's Krasnoyarsk territory hijacked a Mi-8T transport helicopter and used it to make low-altitude maneuvers after arguing with his wife on Saturday night, the regional Investigative Committee said on its website.

The man, drunk at the time, entered the airport after showing his pilot identification at the checkpoint. He then broke into the helicopter by damaging its door and took off.

"After taking off into the air, the hijacker piloting the aircraft began carrying out chaotic maneuvers at an extremely low altitude over the settlement of Turukhansk and its surroundings, as well as the village of Farkovo, 45 kilometers from Turukhansk," the Investigative Committiee said.

The man came back to earth about an hour later, landing the helicopter on the Turukhansk airport's landing strip.

The pilot faces up to eight years in prison for the hijacking, although no apparent damage was done except to the helicopter's door.
