New York State Police are searching for two prisoners who escaped from Clinton County Correctional Facility overnight..

New York State Troopers identified prisoners who both are facing murder charges as Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34.both of whom are facing murder charges

Matt is described as white, six feet tall, and weighing 210 pounds with black hair and hazel eyes. Troopers say he has a tattoo on his back reading, “Mexico Forever,” a heart on his chest and left shoulder, and a Marine Corps. insignia on his right shoulder.

Sweat is described as white, 5-feet-11 inches tall, and weighing 165 pounds with brown hair and green eyes.  Police say he has tattoos on his left bicep and his right fingers.

Police say Matt is serving a 25-year-to-life sentence for kidnapping a man and beating him to death in Niagara County. 

Sweat is serving a sentence of life without parole after being convicted for first-degree murder of a sheriff's deputy in Broome County.

Police say both men are dangerous and should not be approached if encountered.

Troopers say they received a call from the correctional facility at about 5:45 a.m. on Saturday regarding two inmates who were unaccounted for following a 5:30 a.m. bed check.

State police have set up several roadblocks in the greater Dannemora area as they search for the escapees.
