On May 7, 2015, New York State Governor Cuomo commissioned a board to investigate and make recommendations regarding what the minimum wage should be in specific industries of the state.

Cuomo said that New York State could create a new national standard by setting fast-food workers on a path out of poverty and easing the burden on taxpayers.

The board is expected to present recommendations regarding possible adjustments to the minimum wage in August 2015.

The minimum wage in New York is currently $8.75 per hour.
