MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Yemen is being torn by a violent confrontation between forces loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Houthi rebels.
"We think that Russia has all the necessary capabilities to influence the end of the bloodshed and the establishment of peace in this country," Rahimpour said.
Since late March, a Saudi Arabia-led coalition of Gulf states has been conducting airstrikes in the conflict-torn Yemen. In April, the airstrike campaign was replaced by Operation Restoring Hope, with the coalition saying it was halting military action in Yemen, but the airstrikes have continued.
On Wednesday, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said Russia had called on the special representative of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to hold an urgent round of Yemeni peace talks.
The World Health Organization estimates that up to 2,000 have died and more than 8,000 have been wounded after the spring surge of violence in Yemen.
