The majority of voters in the US state of New York would like to replace every state lawmaker, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday.

NEW YORK (Sputnik) — “All elected officials in Albany should be voted out of office so new officials can start with a clean slate, voters say 55-28 percent,” a statement announcing the poll read.

Furthermore, the majority of voters believe New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo does too little to combat corruption, as his approval rating has fallen to the lowest rate ever of 44 percent, according to the poll.

“Can Albany fix itself? A lot of New Yorkers don’t think so. And most of them think Gov. Andrew Cuomo is part of the problem, not the solution,” Quinnipiac University Poll Assistant Director said in a statement.

The poll results were announced as two high-ranking lawmakers from New York – Assemblyman Speaker Sheldon Silver and State Senator Dean Skelos — are facing corruption charges for trading political influence for personal gain.

Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,229 New York State voters from May 28-June 1, 2015.
