Rossiya Segodnya Announces Shortlist for the Andrei Stenin Photo Contest
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia’s largest international contest for young photographers is named after Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency photojournalist Andrei Stenin, who died in 2014 near the city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine while on assignment.

Opening the awards ceremony at the agency’s International Multimedia Press Center, Rossiya Segodnya Director General Dmitry Kiselev thanked all the contestants. Some 5,000 entries from 54 countries were submitted.

The Grand Prix was awarded to Yelena Anosova, a young photographer from the Russian city of Irkutsk, for her Separation series about women in Siberia's prisons.

The jury voted the best works in four main categories: Top News, Current Issues, Sports, and Everyday Life. Special certificates were awarded to first, second and third place winners from France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia, Peru, China, Syria, Iran, Israel and Russia.

4,900 Entries From 54 Countries Submitted to Andrei Stenin Photo Contest
Eleven finalists from Russia, Bangladesh, China and Spain were awarded Honorable Mention.

An exhibition of the highest rated entries, along with several photos made by Stenin, will be organized at a Moscow exposition venue in September 2015.

The 2015 contest was supported by the  Xinhua News Agency, the Royal Photographic Society, the Indonesian Press Photo Agency Antara Foto, RT, RBTH (Russia Beyond the Headlines), the Moscow International Centre for Journalism (MICJ), Tutto Digitale Magazine, the Academy of Photography, Vesti.ru online newspaper, Foto&Video magazine, Geophoto.ru agency jourdom.ru portal,  Fototehnika portal, the Moscow Union of Journalists, photo-study.ru photography education web site, Russian Photo portal, School of Visual Arts, YOJO.ru web platform for young journalists and Foto.ru club.
