Google launched a new security tool, empowering users with opportunity to control how their private data is used by the company's services.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Google launched Monday a new security tool, empowering users with opportunity to control how their private data is used by the company's services, according to a post in Google’s Official Blog.

“My Account [name of the tool] gives you quick access to the settings and tools that help you safeguard your data, protect your privacy, and decide what information is used to make Google services work better for you,” the post said.

According to Google, it provides users with more context to help them understand possible options of private data’s protection and make adequate choices.

Google pointed out that the development of a new tool was triggered by feedback from the users around the world, that are concerned about their private data’s privacy.

The issue of data security came into spotlight in the United States following Edward Snowden's revelations in 2013, which led to widespread controversy surrounding the US National Security Agency's spying capabilities and surveillance practices at home and abroad.

According to Snowden, big corporations, such as Google, Facebook and Yahoo were "deputized" by the government to be "surveillance sheriffs" and were collecting information about people who used their services.
