"Israel has no intention of ignoring rocket fire on its citizens, the likes of which was perpetrated by the Islamic Jihad last night," Ya’alon said, as quoted by the Haaretz newspaper.
"Hamas better restrain any attempts to open fire toward Israel or provoke it; otherwise we will have to act more forcefully… I wouldn't advise anyone to test us," Ya’alon warned.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli Air Force launched a series of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip after a missile from the region struck southern Israel on Tuesday.
A ceasefire between Israel and militant groups in Gaza, such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad, was agreed on after last summer’s seven-week military operation by Israel in the Hamas-ruled Gaza strip. Israel launched the military campaign as a reaction to rocket strikes from the Palestinian territory.
According to local media, both Hamas and Islamic Jihad have denied firing the missile.
