One of the few survivors of  the January 7 Islamist militant attack on the journal, Renald Luzier, better known as Luz, announced his decision to quit in an interview with Liberacion newspaper.

"Every print-run was torture because the others are no longer there," said Luz, who recently announced he would no longer draw cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad because he was fed up with it.

Islamist militants attacked journal’s Paris headquarters killing 12 people in retaliation for the journal running a series of irreverent drawings of the Prophet.

The Charlie Hebdo weekly is known for lampooning Islam, along with other religions, and the political establishment.
