Commission on Proton Rocket Failure to Finish Investigation by End of May
11:21 GMT 19.05.2015 (Updated: 11:27 GMT 19.05.2015) Over the last five years, there have been seven Proton carrier rocket failures. The latest took place on May 16, when a Proton-M was to deliver cargo to the ISS, but after reaching space lost its telemetry contact with Earth and began spinning out of control, burning up in the atmosphere a few days later after falling from an uncontrollable orbit.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The commission responsible for investigating the reasons for the latest Proton carrier rocket failure will finish its work by the end of May, the head of Russia’s space agency said Tuesday.
“In regard to the commission on the Proton, there are seven working groups from analyzing the telemetry to analyzing work in the [production] plants involved. They have a task of finishing their work by the end of May,” Roscosmos head Igor Komarov said during a parliament session dedicated to the company.
