Russia's Sukhoi SuperJet-100 (SSJ-100) aircraft will take part in Moroccan planned tender, Russian Upper Parliament Speaker Valentina Matvienko said Thursday.

RABAT (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Matvienko arrived in Morocco for an official two-day visit.

"We are interested in participation in the tender held by the Moroccan airline [Royal Air Maroc] for the purchase of regional aircraft," Matvienko told reporters.

Royal Air Maroc, the government-owned national carrier of Morocco, suffered record operating losses in 2010 and 2011. After the crisis, the company was restructured and intended to enlarge its fleet with the assistance of world's leading aircraft manufacturers.

The Superjet-100 is a twin-engine regional passenger airliner, which completed its maiden flight in 2008 before being sold commercially for the first time in 2011.

The plane, which can carry up to 95 passengers, is used by Russian, Mexican and Laotian airlines. In February, Nepalese airline Bishwo Airways also asked Russia for the supply of Sukhoi SuperJet-100 planes.

In 2014, the total number of firm orders for SSJ-100 rose by more than five percent and totaled 192 aircraft.
