David Miliband Criticizes Brother, Rules Out Leading Labour Party

Former Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom David Miliband criticized Monday the way his brother led the campaign for May 7 general election but ruled himself out of competing for the Labour leadership.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Friday, following defeat in general election, Labour party leader Ed Miliband announced his resignation.

"I'm clearly not a candidate in this leadership election… the commitment I have to the job I've got doesn't change," David Miliband, who is currently the head of the International Rescue Committee charity in New York told the BBC.

Miliband added that Labour had lost the May 7 general election because the British electorate "did not want what was being offered".

Miliband said that his brother and former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown "allowed themselves to be seen as moving backwards from the principles of aspiration and inclusion which are at the heart of progressive modern politics."

He added, however, that many of the attacks on Ed Miliband during the election campaign had been "unpleasant and unfair" but his brother had been dealing with them with dignity.

Labour received only 232 seats in the 650-seat House of Commons, the lower house of British parliament.
