LUHANSK (Sputnik) — The self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) will celebrate the 70th anniversary of WWII victory over Nazi Germany by organizing an unprecedented parade.

“There hasn’t been such a parade in this area in 40 years. It will be a grand event. We are inviting everyone not to stay home, but to come and participate,” LPR Deputy Prime Minister Vasily Nikitin said.

The parade will start at 10 a. m. local time (07:00 GMT) on Saturday. At 11:30 Victory Day concerts will begin in all major LPR cities. Lugansk residents will see a firework show at 21:00 (18:00 GMT).

The southeastern Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics declared themselves independent from Ukraine in May, 2014, about two months after Crimea's voters backed reunification with Russia in a referendum.

Russia also has an exceptional program planned for May 9. This year's event will be the biggest Russian military parade ever held. About 16,500 servicemen, almost 200 units of military equipment and some 140 helicopters and planes will participate in the celebration, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Over 25 government and state leaders will attend the Moscow Victory Day celebrations.
