This is CNN: Network Deprives United Kingdom of its Name on Election Night

CNN may be one of the leading names in news, but the network doesn’t seem to trust its audience to be the most well-informed, geographically at least. As the UK awaits the results of a major election, CNN decides to go with the phrase "US Ally," just to play it on the safe side.

On the whole, perhaps it’s not a bad assumption. Multiple studies have shown that Americans have an unfortunately low knowledge of the world beyond their borders. But still, if there’s one country, after Mexico and Canada, that US citizens have some awareness of, it’s probably the United Kingdom.

Just to drive the point home, CNN also appears to be reporting from the top of a double-decker bus. If "US Ally" wasn’t clear enough, maybe American audiences will at least recognize transportation they’ve seen in the Austin Powers movies.
