About 40 people, including 38 policemen, have reportedly been injured during anti-government protests in the Macedonian capital Skopje.

Anti-government protests in the Macedonian capital Skopje have left around 40 people, including 38 policemen, injured, sources said.

Up to 2,000 people took part in the protest rally in Skopje on Tuesday evening. Protesters, armed with stones and metal bars, tried to break through the police cordon and enter the government's building.

The riots began after Zoran Zajev, leader of the country's main opposition party, accused Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski of concealing the circumstances of the murder of 22-year-old Martin Neshkovski in June 2011.
