On Sunday, two men fired at an unarmed security guard outside the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas, which was hosting a contest for cartoon drawings of the Prophet Muhammad. Local police arrived at the scene and shot both suspects dead. The security guard sustained a leg injury and was taken to hospital.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Investigation into the shooting at the Prophet Muhammad cartoon exhibit in Garland is underway, but it is too early to determine whether the Islamic State terrorist group was behind the attack despite the militant group’s recent claim of responsibility, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a press briefing on Tuesday.

Earnest stressed that the investigation into the attack was still underway by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other members of the intelligence community “to determine any ties or affiliations that these two individuals [shooters] may have had with ISIL or other terrorist organizations around the world.”
