BERLIN (Sputnik) — In the Kreuzberg area of Berlin many roads and several underground stations were closed as protesters took to the streets. Special police units and a helicopter were maintaining order.

Some 45,000 people attended the Myfest street celebration in Kreuzberg, the event organizers said.

According to Al Jazeera, one police officer was injured after protesters threw fireworks and stones at security forces during the May Day celebrations north of Berlin. Fifteen people were detained, the news outlet said.
