WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Secretary of State John Kerry will visit Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Djibouti in the beginning of May to strengthen bilateral relations, according to a US State Department press release.
“Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Colombo, Sri Lanka, on May 2 for his first trip to the country and the first visit by a Secretary of State since 2004,” the release issued on Monday read.
Kerry is scheduled to meet with Sri Lanka’s government leaders and civil society members in the capital of Colombo to express US support for “a more peaceful, stable, and prosperous future for its people,” as stated in the release.
On May 3, Secretary Kerry will visit Nairobi, Kenya, “to reinforce the importance of our strong bilateral relationship,” according to the release.
“He will discuss a range of issues [in Kenya] including security cooperation — particularly in light of the recent tragic attack at Garissa University College – refugee assistance, trade, and biodiversity,” the release said.
On May 5, the US secretary of state will visit Djibouti for the first time “to discuss our bilateral cooperation and their support to evacuation efforts from Yemen,” the State Department said in a release.
