India is set to provide relief materials and send a rescue team to neighboring Nepal after a major earthquake shook the country on Saturday, India Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — One Indian aircraft carrying aid, including medicines, has already landed in Nepal, while two more will be sent soon, Jaishankar told reporters.

”We are offering full assistance to Nepal.”

Saturday's earthquake claimed the lives of more than 800 people in Nepal and over 20 in India.

According to Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, a building in India’s embassy complex in Kathmandu collapsed, killing the child and injuring the wife of an employee.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level emergency meeting earlier in the day to assess the situation after the earthquake.
